OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team returned to the pool Friday evening for the first time in six weeks, falling to in-state rival Nebraska, 178-114.
The Mavericks won four events on the evening, with local product Natalie Renshaw taking the top spot in two of them. The senior from Millard North finished ahead of the pack in both the 200 free (1:54.41) and the 100 free (51.95).
Junior Morgan Stepp also earned a pair of individual victories on the evening. The Parker, Colo., native won the 200 fly, finishing with a season-best time of 2:05.92, and also triumphed in the 200 IM (2:07.06).
Freshman Grete Baker impressed in the 1,000 free, taking a second-place finish and registering the fourth-fastest time in the event for any Maverick this season (10:49.85).
Senior Hannah Johnson took second in the 100 free (55.07), finishing behind Renshaw for Omaha's only 1-2 finish of the evening.
Junior Meredith Ricks (200 back) and sophomore Chloe Kuehner (200 breast) also swam to second-place finishes in their respective events. Ricks, from Topeka, Kan., finished with a time of 2:15.12, while Kuehner, a Marshalltown, Iowa, native, touched the wall at 2:28.96.
Omaha concludes its final homestand on Saturday, Jan. 16 when Nebraska-Kearney comes to town for Senior Day. The Mavericks will honor their five seniors -- Claire Alexander, Hannah Johnson, Miranda Knipfer, Jordane Linhart and Natalie Renshaw -- prior to the 2 p.m. meet.
