Omaha and UND opened the match exchanging scores until Schmale sparked the offense with a kill to make it 8-7. From there, UNO went on a 6-0 spurt that extended its lead to 13-7. The Mavericks took control to finish the set, never allowing North Dakota to come within more than four points en route to a 25-18 win.
Game two was much of the same story, as the two teams battled the whole way. Neither squad owned a lead larger than two before North Dakota broke past an 18-all tie to go up 21-18. UND went on to take the set 25-21 and tie the match at 1-1.
Omaha started the third set strong, ignited by an 11-3 opening run that included back-to-back O'Shaughnessy at the start of the game. A kill by Taylor gave Omaha its largest lead of the night at 17-6. Later in the set, UNO rattled off three straight kills from Horkey, Schimmer and Schmale, creating a 10-point lead at 22-12. UND managed to pull within three at 22-19 with a 7-0 run, but Omaha shut it down on back-to-back kills by Schimmer and Horkey and a Schmale block that closed the game at 25-19.
UNO worked another 2-0 lead in the fourth game on more strong serving from O'Shaughnessy. The Mavericks increased their lead to 10-6 on a vicious kill by Wollak, who hit .444 in the final set, and another by Taylor. After North Dakota brought it to a 14-14 tie, Omaha went on a scalding 6-0 run with kills from Wollak and Schmale, a UND attack error and two blocks – one a solo stop from Schmale and another an assisted block between her and Wollak. After that, Wollak finished off the match, supplying her final kill of the night for the 25-18 set win and a 3-1 match victory.
