Box Score MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Omaha volleyball team kicked off its weekend at the CMU Chippewa Challenge Friday afternoon, falling 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 12-25, 15-25) to San Jose State at McGuirk Arena. The Mavericks moved to 4-7 on the year, while the Spartans improved to 7-4.
Sophomore outside hitter
Mackenzie Horkey led the Mavericks with a season-high 12 kills and 13 digs for her second double-double of the year. Sophomore setter
Sydney O'Shaughnessy just missed a double-double of her own, closing the day with 34 assists and nine digs.
Senior outside hitter
Kelley Wollak added eight kills, and senior rightside hitter
Michaela Schimmer matched her with another eight kills. Schimmer and senior middle blocker
Amy Taylor also each tallied season highs with a match-high six blocks apiece, helping Omaha outblock San Jose State, 9-8. Additionally, senior libero

SJSU was led by five players with double-figure kill performances: Tyanna Roy (12), Hanaa Tresnakova (12), Sara Hibbs (10), Giulia Gavio (10) and Nandyala Gama (10). Allison Meehan finished with a match-high 49 assists, guiding the Spartans to a .298 team attacking percentage.
Omaha returns to action at the Chippewa Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 19, facing Evansville at 9 a.m. CT and tournament host Central Michigan at 6:30 p.m. CT. Links to live stats and video for both matches will be available on OMavs.com.
