Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 22 Omaha men's soccer team did not have much time to dwell on Friday night's 1-0 defeat at Marquette. UNO battled DePaul for a 3-2 come-from-behind win in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon at Wish Field in Chicago.
The Mavericks improved to 5-1 overall, while the Blue Demons fell to 1-4.
Senior forward Andres Irvin, redshirt freshman forward Noor Hamadi, and junior midfielder Mark Moulton scored for the Mavericks, who rallied from an early deficit for the second time this season.
The Blue Demons took a 1-0 lead by scoring in the ninth minute. Hans Wustling got behind the Omaha defense and passed a ball to John Freitag who tapped in his first goal of the season.
DePaul almost doubled its score in the 18th minute when Simon Megally put a ball on target, but Omaha goalkeeper Josh Christen came up with a huge save.
In the 24th minute, the Mavericks leveled the score, 1-1. Lalo Gamboa and Logan Mendez teamed up with some nifty passing which freed Andres Irvin. Irvin took the pass and placed his shot past goalkeeper Quentin Low.
Omaha had a chance to go up 2-1 in the 33rd minute, but Low saved Fazlo Alihodzic's goal scoring attempt.
The game went to intermission tied, 1-1. Omaha held a slight advantage in shots, 4-3.
UNO continued to pressure DePaul throughout the second half and the go-ahead goal came in the 69th minute. Senior Jesus Perez's through ball found the run of Hamadi, who fired home his second goal of the season.
Mark Moulton added an insurance goal for UNO less than ten minutes later. Perez again played a perfect pass that found Moulton who buried his shot into the upper left corner for a 3-1 Omaha lead.
Things got tight in the 86th minute when the Blue Demons were awarded a penalty shot. Megally placed his shot past Christensen to draw DePaul within a goal. However, both teams were held off the scoreboard from there.
Christensen earned the win in goal, making five saves.
Omaha will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host Bradley at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.
