Omaha Men's Soccer Opens with Black-White Scrimmage

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team is hosting a Black-White scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.  The scrimmage is free and open to the public.

The 24-palyer Maverick team will split up into two squads and will play each other in two 30-minute games.  The scrimmage will serve as a tune-up for the Mavericks exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 22 against 10th-rated Washington in the South Omaha Classic.

Omaha returns most of its squad from a 2014 record-breaking season, when the team set a program record with 10 wins and earned a share of the Summit League regular season title.

Senior defender Felipe da Silva, senior midfielder Emir Alihodzic, and junior midfielder Mark Moulton were all selected to Summit League postseason honors in 2014.  Mouton led Omaha with ten assists.  Alihodzic and da Silva helped anchor a defense that had a 0.78 goals against average last season.

The 2015 Omaha team has a lot of new faces: six newcomers and two transfers have been added to the mix.  After three days of preseason, head coach Jason Mims will be able to gauge his team's progress with the scrimmage on Saturday.
