LOMPOC, Calif. – The Omaha men's golf team concluded its four-year Division I reclassification with an eighth-place finish at the Summit League Championship on Sunday.
The Mavericks finished with a team score of 948 over 54 holes at La Purisima Golf Course. South Dakota won its first Summit Championship with a score of 909, edging Oral Roberts which finished second at 912. South Dakota State was third at 921.
Sunday marked the end of the careers of UNO seniors
Karl Krieser,
Alex Holtan and
Taylor Sidzyik who are known among their teammates as “the Founders” for being with the team since its creation in 2011 when they were freshmen.
Krieser was second in team scoring and tied for 24th overall with a total score of 236. Holtan was third for the Mavericks and 27th overall with a score of 238. Both players shot team-low rounds of 79 on Sunday. Sidzyik was fifth for the Mavericks and 42nd overall with a total score of 254. He shot 89 in round three.
Two freshmen saw action for the Mavericks in the championship, and one of them,
Phillip Baumberger, led the Mavericks with a three-day score of 231 that included a final round of 83. He tied for 11th overall in the field of 45 golfers.
Baumberger's fellow freshman,
Caleb Haight, was fourth in team scoring and 41st overall with a third-round score of 83 that gave him a total of 251.
