Shaw Earns Academic All-Summit League Honor

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha's Mikaela Shaw was named to the Summit League's Academic All-League team, announced by the conference office Wednesday.

The award, voted on by the league's sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives, recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments on and off the court.

The Deweese, Neb., native was one of five student-athletes selected for the award, and was joined by Fort Wayne's Haley Seibert, South Dakota's Nicole Seekamp, Western Illinois' Ashley Luke and South Dakota State's Megan Waytashek.

Shaw, who posted a 3.89 GPA as a Biology major, earned her first academic all-league award.  She led the Mavericks in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.7 rpg) this season.  The sophomore earned Summit League Player of the Week honors on February 16th.  Shaw donates her time to the Big Brother/Big Sister program, the Mighty Mavericks, Children's Hospital and the YMCA.

Eligibility for the Academic All-League team includes a GPA of at least 3.30, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.

The Omaha Mavericks' women's basketball team finished the 2014-15 season with an overall record of 10-18 and finished with a 5-11 mark in the Summit League.
