DELHI, Louisiana –
Karl Krieser shot a school record round of 67 to lead the Omaha men's golf team to eighth place after the first two rounds of the Wallace Jones Invitational at Louisiana Monroe on Monday.
The Mavericks shot team rounds of 294 and 292 for a day one total of 586. The second-round score is a team low for the season. Arkansas Little Rock leads the event with a 36-hole score of 568. Host Louisiana Monroe is second at 574, and Louisiana Tech is third at 576.
Krieser shot an opening-round score of one-over-par 71 but was even better in round two. He had six birdies including a stretch of four straight from the 10th through the 13th holes to help him to a score of 67. It's the best single round shot by a Maverick golfer in the Division I era. He's currently fourth overall in the field of 88 golfers with a score of 140.
Phillip Baumberger opened the tournament with a career-best round of 71 and followed with a score of 76 for a total of 147. He's tied with teammate
Taylor Sidzyik who shot 76 in round one and followed with a career-best score of 71 in round two. Both players are tied for 31st.
Caleb Haight carded rounds of 75 and 78 for a score of 153 to sit fourth for the Mavericks and in a tie for 59th overall.
Alex Holtan rounded out the scoring for the Mavs with rounds of 75 and 83 for a score of 158. He's tied for 75th overall.
Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, carded scores of 84 and 88 for a total of 172.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Black Bear Golf Course.
