Box Score LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The Omaha men's basketball team rallied in the closing minutes but came up just short at Wyoming Saturday afternoon, falling 76-75 at Arena-Auditorium as part of the Global Sports Classic. The Mavericks are now 6-6 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Cowboys improve to 7-4 (0-0 Mountain West).

Devin Patterson was the third Maverick to score in double figures, as he finished with 14 points, as well as five assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Omaha shot 39 percent (22-of-57) from the field, 35 percent (8-of-23) behind the arc and 85 percent (22-of-26) at the line. Wyoming hit 47 percent (23-of-49) from the floor and an identical 35 percent (8-of-23) from long range with 68 percent (23-of-34) at the stripe. The Mavericks held the advantage on the glass (36-35), in assists (17-13) and in steals (7-4).
Wyoming was led by 31 points from Josh Adams, the nation's fifth-ranked scorer, who was 7-of-15 from the field with three 3-pointers and a 14-of-15 showing at the line. Alan Herndon added another 14 points, while Jason McManamen and Alexander Aka Gorski had 11 apiece.
After Omaha trailed 29-26 at the halfway point, the Mavericks took the lead early in the second half, outscoring Wyoming 12-4 to start while going in front 38-33. UW tied it at 38-38 on a Lieberman three before UNO kicked into gear with triples from senior guards
Tim Smallwood and
Kyler Erickson, plus two White free throws that created Omaha's largest lead of the day at 46-39. Adams then hit back-to-back threes to trim the Mavericks' lead to 46-45, followed by a layup from Gorski that put Wyoming ahead 48-46 with 7:59 to go.
The Cowboys led by as much as seven until Omaha rallied late, pulling it to 70-67 with 52 seconds left on a Thurman jumper. After a James bucket in the lane, Thurman responded with a 3-pointer with 13.9 seconds to cut Wyoming's lead to 72-70. McManaman then hit two free throws to extend the Cowboys' advantage, but a layup by White again made it a two-point game with 3.6 seconds on the clock. After Adams drained two more free throws, Patterson knocked down a three at the buzzer to bring the final score to 76-75.
Omaha closes the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., facing Eastern Illinois on Monday, Dec. 21 and Southern or North Carolina Central on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Gary Sharp will have the call for both games on 1180 Zone 2.
