Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha volleyball team's eight-match win streak came to an end Saturday night, as the Mavericks fell 3-1 (20-25, 20-25, 30-28, 18-25) to IUPUI at The Jungle to close the regular season. The Mavericks finish the regular season at 17-12 (12-4 Summit League), while the Jaguars improve to 21-9 (12-4 Summit League).

Omaha has locked in a No. 3 seed for its first appearance at the Summit League Championship next weekend. Denver finished with the No. 1 seed and the regular-season title, while IUPUI took the No. 2 seed just ahead of UNO, and both DU and IUPUI will have a bye to start the conference tournament.

Sophomore setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy notched her 21st double-double of the season on 50 assists and 23 digs against the Jaguars, adding four kills, two blocks and two aces. Sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey also had a double-double -- her 11th of the year -- with 13 kills and 19 digs, as well as two blocks and two aces.

Senior rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer led the Mavericks with a match-high 17 kills, as well as three blocks and three digs. Senior middle blocker Megan Schmale posted 12 kills on .345 hitting with a match-best eight blocks. With the school record for block assists in hand as of last night, Schmale now owns 448 assisted stops at the net over her career.

Freshman outside hitter Gessica Gdowski had a well-rounded performance with nine kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Senior libero Kimberly Bailey added to the defensive charge with 22 digs for her 13th match this season – and her fifth consecutive -- with 20 or more digs. Freshman defensive specialist Jessica Plake also finished in double figures with 18 digs for the night.

As a team, Omaha hit .204 to IUPUI's .244. The Mavericks outblocked the Jaguars 11-10 and outdug them 101-89, with the digs total a season high. It also marked UNO's highest team dig tally since 103 vs. Grand Canyon on Nov. 22, 2014.

IUPUI was led by double-doubles from Alexis Mapes (27 assists/12 digs), Kaitlyn Hickey (17 kills/15 digs) and Ashley Hacker (18 assists/13 digs).

Omaha found itself in a hole early, as IUPUI won the first and second sets by identical scores of 25-20 to take a 2-0 match lead.

The Mavericks would not go down without a battle, however. In the third game, UNO outblocked IUPUI 4-1 and turned to Schimmer for seven kills on .333 hitting and another five from Schmale on .556 hitting. Five ties pushed the score to 23-23 before a Schmale kill made it set point. After IUPUI tied it once more at 24-all, Schmale again used a kill to put the Mavericks up by one. The two teams traded points up to 28-28 before Omaha got the last drive, with a Horkey kill and a Jaguar attack error keeping the match alive with a 30-28 Maverick win.

In the fourth set, UNO kept it close and brought the match to a 10-10 tie on a Gdowski kill. IUPUI then surged with a short 3-0 run, and though Omaha got within one at 13-12 on back-to-back kills from Schimmer and Horkey, the Jaguars did not relinquish their lead. IUPUI went on to take the win, sealing it with three consecutive kills from Hickey and Kori Waelbroeck for a 25-18 set score and a 3-1 match final.

Omaha returns to action next weekend at the Summit League Championship, Nov. 20-22, in Denver, Colo. The Mavericks will face the tournament's No. 6 seed on Friday, Nov. 20 at 8:30 p.m. (CT).
