Box Score MACOMB, Ill. -- The Omaha volleyball team picked up its fifth conference victory Tuesday night, defeating Western Illinois 3-1 (25-14, 25-18, 20-25, 25-13) at Western Hall. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 10-11 (5-3 Summit League), while the Leathernecks dropped to 3-20 (1-7 Summit League).

Michaela Schimmer and sophomore outside hitter
Mackenzie Horkey had 12 kills apiece to lead the Mavericks. Schimmer hit .364 for the night and added four blocks, while Horkey nabbed her seventh double-double of the year with 10 digs. Sophomore setter
Sydney O'Shaughnessy also had a double-double -- her team-leading 14th of the season -- with 33 assists, 11 digs, four blocks, three aces and a career high-tying seven kills.

Kimberly Bailey posted a team-high 20 digs, and freshman outside hitter
Gessica Gdowski added 11, tying her season best, along with six kills and four blocks.
At the net, senior middle blocker
Megan Schmale put together an outstanding effort with a season-high nine blocks, as well as seven kills.
As a team, Omaha outhit Western Illinois .244 to .133 and outblocked the Leathernecks 14-8. It marked the Mavericks' ninth game with 10 or more team blocks this season.
UNO came out swinging to start the match, hitting .444 as a team with just one error while holding WIU to a .143 effort on six attack errors. Stalled at 5-5, the Mavericks strung together a 14-4 run helped by four kills from Horkey and two from Schimmer that made it 19-9. A Gdowski kill and back-to-back Schmale/O'Shaughnessy blocks doubled the lead at 22-11, and Gdowski later finished it off with a final kill to give Omaha the win at 25-14.
Set two saw three early ties until the Mavericks broke past a 7-7 knot with a 4-0 run, spurred by consecutive kills from O'Shaughnessy and Schimmer, a Schimmer/Schmale stop at the net and a WIU attack error. Omaha then took its largest lead at 22-13 on a block by Schimmer and senior middle blocker
Amy Taylor. At 23-18, a Leatherneck service error made it game point, and an ace from Bailey sealed the win at 25-18 and put UNO up by two.
Western came back in the third set, however, holding the Mavericks to .049 team hitting while outblocking UNO 4-2. The Leathernecks won game three 25-20, cutting the Mavericks' match lead to 2-1.
Omaha finished it in style in the fourth game, posting a .419 team hitting percentage and outblocking WIU 4-0. The Mavericks ran out to a fast 4-0 lead on a Schmale/Gdowski block and three straight kills from Schmale, Schimmer and Bailey to force a Leatherneck timeout. A Schmale kill later made it 10-5, and a 5-1 run from there extended the Mavericks' lead to 15-6. The lead lengthened to 20-8 with a WIU service error, and straight kills from O'Shaughnessy and Gdowski eventually helped it to 22-11. Two plays later, Horkey hammered a kill and Schmale and O'Shaughnessy put up a block to make it match point at 24-12. Horkey then had the last word, as her final kill punctuated the set at 25-13 and the match at 3-1.
