AMES, Iowa -- The Omaha volleyball team opened the Iowa State Challenge Thursday night, falling 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 15-25) to host ISU at Hilton Coliseum. UNO is now 1-3 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while ISU is 1-2 (0-0 Big 12).

Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak led the Mavericks in kills for the fourth straight match, finishing with 10.

Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy had 19 assists and eight digs, and junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer totaled six kills and six digs. Junior middle blocker matched Schimmer with six more kills and a team-best two blocks.

Iowa State was led by 10 kills from Victoria Hurtt, who hit .364 for the night. Setter Suzanne Horner had a match-best 36 assists for the Cyclones.

Iowa State hit .385 as a team, including .444 in the final set, and managed to hold UNO to a .123 attack percentage. The matchup between Omaha and ISU was the first since Sept.  18, 1990, and the Cyclones lead the all-time series, 5-4.

Omaha continues the three-day tournament on Friday, facing Northern Illinois in a neutral-site match at 4 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. A link to live stats will be available on OMavs.com.
