Mavs Drop Two at Emerald Beach Islanders Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Omaha volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to open the Emerald Beach Islanders Classic on Friday, falling 3-0 (17-25, 15-25, 21-25) to Texas A&M Corpus Christi and 3-1 to Incarnate Word (18-25, 25-27, 28-26, 14-25). The Mavericks are now 4-7 (0-0 Summit League) on the season.

TEXAS A&M CORPUS CHRISTI 3, OMAHA 0
Omaha opened the day with a morning match against host Texas A&M Corpus Christi, falling 3-0 by set scores of 17-25, 15-25 and 21-25.

Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak led the Mavericks with eight kills alongside nine digs and two blocks.

Junior defensive specialist Kimberly Bailey had a team-best 14 digs. Freshman Sydney O'Shaughnessy finished with a team-leading 15 assists, while junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer added 10 more.

At the net, junior middle blocker Megan Schmale put up three blocks for the morning.

TAMUCC was led by Ivy Baresh, who had a double-double on1 0 kills and 10 digs. As a team, the Islanders outhit Omaha, .265 to .096 and outblocked the Mavericks, 7-5.

INCARNATE WORD 3, OMAHA 1
In the second match of the day, the Mavericks were bested by Incarnate Word, 3-1. After UIW took a 2-0 advantage with wins of 25-18 and 27-25, Omaha prevented the sweep with an exciting 28-26 victory in game three. The Cardinals came back to win set four by a score of 25-14, however, taking the match, 3-1.

Schmale finished with a team-leading 12 kills on .385 hitting for the night to lead UNO. Schimmer picked up her team-leading fifth double-double of the year in her performance, totaling 10 kills and 16 assists with three blocks.

O'Shaughnessy narrowly missed a double-double of her own, posting 27 assists and nine digs, while freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey had nine kills and 10 digs.

Bailey finished with a match-best 24 digs, and junior middle blocker Diane Banderas put up a team-leading four blocks with six kills on .500 hitting.

As a team, Incarnate Word outblocked UNO, 7-4, and hit .271 to the Mavericks' .205.

Omaha returns to action with two matches on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Emerald Beach Islanders Classic. The Mavs first face Boise State at 11 a.m., followed by UT-Pan American at 5 p.m. Links to live stats and live video for both matches will be available on OMavs.com.
