Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Omaha volleyball team opened its weekend at the Billiken Invitational on Friday evening, falling to host Saint Louis 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 29-31) at Chaifetz Pavilion. The Mavericks are now 2-5 (0-0 Summit League) on the year, while the Billikens improved to 6-3 (0-0 Atlantic 10).
Junior outside hitter
Kelley Wollak led the Mavericks with eight kills alongside 10 digs and three blocks. Junior middle blocker
Megan Schmale added a match-best seven blocks with six kills on .500 hitting and no attack errors.
Freshman setter
Sydney O'Shaughnessy finished with 13 assists, while junior setter/rightside hitter
Michaela Schimmer had nine assists, five kills, seven digs and five stops at the net. Redshirt freshman middle blocker
Amanda Conlin matched Schimmer with five blocks of her own, and freshman outside hitter
Mackenzie Horkey chipped in five kills and a team-leading 11 digs.
Saint Louis was paced by 15 kills from Danielle Rygelski and another 10 from Megan Gilbert. Setter Meredith Boe finished with 33 assists.
As a team, Omaha outblocked SLU 13-8 for its fifth match with 10 or more blocks this season. The Billikens, however, outhit the Mavericks .154 to .086.
UNO returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 for the second day of the Billiken Invitational, facing Air Force at 10 a.m. and Canisius at 4:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo. Links to live stats for both matches will be available on OMavs.com.
