Omaha Claws Past Northern Colorado, 92-82

Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's basketball team picked up a 92-82 win over Northern Colorado in front of 1,287 fans on Wednesday night, improving to a perfect 4-0 at Ralston Arena this season. With the victory, the Mavericks moved to 5-5 (0-0 Summit League), while the Bears drop to 4-5 (0-0 Big Sky).

Junior guard Devin Patterson led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field with two 3-pointers and a 7-of-8 showing at the foul line. Patterson added three rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Junior guard Marcus Tyus chipped in a season-high 19 points, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the floor with a 3-of-3 effort from beyond the arc and a 6-of-6 night from the charity stripe. Tyus also grabbed three boards, dished out six assists and had one block.

Senior guard CJ Carter rounded out the Mavericks' double-figure scoring efforts, totaling 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He added two rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior forward Mike Rostampour finished with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds, seven of which were offensive caroms.

As a team, Omaha shot 30-of-55 (.545) and was 9-of-19 (.474) from long range, while Northern Colorado came in at 29-of-62 (.468) from the field. The Mavericks also outrebounded the Bears, 34-27.

UNC had four players score in double figures: Tim Huskisson (19), Dominique Lee (19), Jordan Wilson (18) and Tevin Svihovec (14). Lee narrowly missed a double-double, also pulling down nine boards.

UNC committed three straight turnovers to open the game, and two Patterson layups quickly spotted UNO a 4-0 lead. After Northern Colorado tied the game at 6-6, a 12-4 Maverick run brought it to 18-10. When the Bears pulled within five at 25-20, Tyus and Patterson each hit a 3-pointer and Carter laid one in, which put the Mavericks up by 10. Omaha then took its biggest lead of the half with two more triples courtesy of Patterson and Tyus, extending UNO's advantage to 44-29, and that paved the way for a 46-32 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, Omaha took its largest lead of the game with 6:27 to go, as Tyus completed the three-point play to make it 77-56. The Bears then went on a massive 15-0 run, shearing the Mavericks' lead to 77-71 before Thurman broke it up with a dunk with 3:54 left. UNO then strung together a quick 7-1 run of its own to surge ahead by 12, but Northern Colorado managed to make it a six-point game again in the final minute. Huskisson's layup for UNC brought it to 88-82 with 42.1 seconds left, but two free throws and a Carter dunk capped the win for Omaha, 92-82.

Omaha returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 21, hosting UT Pan American. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Ralston Arena, and KOIL 1290 AM will carry the broadcast with Gary Sharp and Grant Nieland on the call. Links to live stats, audio and video will also be available on OMavs.com.
