OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team lost a closely contested meet on senior day Saturday afternoon against Northern Iowa at HPER Pool. The Mavs took seven of the 16 total events, but ultimately fell to the Panthers, 168-132.
Sophomore Morgan Stepp and junior Natalie Renshaw both won three individual events to lead all Omaha swimmers.
Stepp, the Parker, Colo., native took the top spot in the 200 fly, finishing with a season-best time of 2:07.23. Stepp also placed first in the 200 breast (2:24.05) and the 200 IM (2:09.70) touching the wall nearly five seconds ahead of all other swimmers in the event.
Millard North alum Natalie Renshaw turned in a season-best time of 51.61 in the 100 free. The junior also took victories in the 100 back (57.74) and 50 free (23.86), Renshaw now owns all five top times for the event this season for the Mavs.
Jenna Foiles paced all Omaha senior swimmers on the afternoon by taking the victory in the 100 fly, finishing with the second fastest time of the season for any Mav in the event at 58.93. The senior Albuquerque, N.M., native also placed third in the 200 fly posting a time of 2:10.86.
Senior Lexi Bergeron had a trio of top-three finishes, the Overland Park, Kan., native took the second spot in the 200 IM (2:14.58). Bergeron also finished third in the 200 free (2:00.58) and the 200 breast (2:31.06).
Freshman Hilary Schieffer had a solid day in the pool, the Altoona, Iowa, product finished with a pair of top-three finishes. Schieffer took second in the 200 free (1:59.16) and third in the 200 back (2:16.44).
Omaha now has over a month break before they return to the pool Jan. 16-17 for the Grinnell Invite in Grinnell, Iowa. The two-day event is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on both days.
