Mavs Ready for Road Challenge at K-State

The Omaha men's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 Summit League) hits the road again this week, visiting Kansas State on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan., and the game will be televised live by FOX Sports Kansas City with Ben Boyle on play-by-play and Stan Weber on color commentary. It will also be carried live on 1620 The Zone with Gary Sharp calling the action, and fans can stream the audio on their smartphones by downloading NRG Media's app “1620 The Zone.” Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

For fans who wish to watch the game on TV, it will be available on FOX Sports Midwest on Cox channels 47 or 1047, DirecTV channel 671-5, Dish channels 450 or 412-38 and AT&T U-verse channels 750 or 1750. FOX Sports Midwest Plus in Mid-Missouri and Indiana will also carry the broadcast.

Scouting the Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State enters the week with a record of 3-3 (0-0 Big 12) after two losses at the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 72-68 loss to Arizona on Nov. 25, then fell 70-47 to Pittsburgh on Nov. 26. Against the Panthers, Thomas Gipson led the way with 13 points and six rebounds, and Justin Edwards pulled down another six boards.

K-State is led by third-year head coach Bruce Weber, who has a record of 50-24 in Manhattan and a career mark of 363-179 over 17 years.

Tuesday marks the first meeting all-time between Kansas State and Omaha.

•Freshman forward Tre'Shawn Thurman's five blocks vs. Nevada on Saturday were the most since Gabe Zweiner tallied five against Nebraska-Kearney on Dec. 3, 2005.
•Junior guard Devin Patterson dished out a career-high nine assists with a season-best five steals against Nevada.
•Omaha limited the Wolf Pack to just 22 points in the second half, the lowest of any UNO opponent since Iowa Wesleyan had 18 on Nov. 30, 2013.
•According to kenpom.com, UNO leads the country in adjusted tempo, which estimates of the possessions per 40 minutes a team would have against a team that wants to play at an average Division I tempo. Omaha's adjusted tempo is listed at 78.4 (possessions per 40 minutes).
•Omaha got out to its fastest start of the season last Tuesday at Nebraska, surging ahead 23-7 in the first five minutes of play.
•UNO earned its first win over a power-six conference on Nov. 22 with a 97-89 triumph at Marquette.
•The Mavericks shot a season-best .571 at Marquette on Nov. 22 and added another .500 effort against Nevada on Nov. 29. In the last three years, Omaha is 16-5 when shooting .500 or better as a team, including a perfect 2-0 this season.
•UNO tallied double-digit offensive rebounds in each of their first three games: 26 vs. Central Arkansas, 11 at Seattle and 11 at Marquette.
•Carter made at least two 3-pointers in his first three games of the season, including a career-high-tying four triples at Marquette.
•Since the 2012-13 season, Omaha is 17-8 when Carter scores 15 or more points in a game.
•Omaha leads the Summit League in points per game, field goals made per game, 3-point percentage, total rebounds per game, rebounding margin and steals per game.
•The Mavericks were picked sixth in this year's Summit League preseason poll.

Last Time Out: Omaha Cruises Past Nevada, 78-54
Omaha put together a dominant non-conference win on Saturday, defeating Nevada 78-54 at Ralston Arena. Freshman forward Tre'Shawn Thurman paced UNO offensively with a season-high 18 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from long range. The Omaha Central product added three rebounds, five blocks and an assist.

Senior forward Mike Rostampour added 17 points, a team-high five rebounds, a block and a steal. Junior guard Marcus Tyus went 5-for-5 from the field – including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc – to finish with 12 points, and junior guard Devin Patterson totaled 10 points, a career-high nine assists and a season-best five steals. Patterson's assist total was the most since Caleb Steffensmeier had 11 against Fort Wayne on Dec. 10, 2011.

As a team, Omaha shot .500 (25-of-52) as a team, including .467 (7-of-15) from 3-point range. Nevada was held to a .322 effort (19-for-59) for the game, hitting just six of their 23 shots taken (.261) in the second half. The Wolf Pack outrebounded UNO, 40-30, helped by a 15-5 advantage on the offensive glass.

Stacking Up Nationally
The Mavericks have jumped into the top 50 in the national statistical rankings, as Omaha's 83.2 points per game ranks 19th among Division I programs. Additionally, Omaha is 33rd with 9.0 steals per game.

Individually, junior guard Devin Patterson is 37th with 5.6 assists per game and 44th with 2.4 steals per contest.

Thurman Makes Immediate Impact
Freshman forward Tre'Shawn Thurman has made four straight starts against Seattle, Marquette, Nebraska and Nevada, becoming the first UNO freshman to earn a start since CJ Carter in 2011-12. Thurman finished with a season bests of 18 points and five blocks against Nevada on Nov. 29, the most blocks by any Maverick since 2005-06.

Thurman has averaged 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game in his debut season, tallying three double-digit scoring efforts. He also led the Mavericks with a season-high eight rebounds at Seattle on Nov. 19.

Mixed Schedule Takes Mavericks Around the Nation
Omaha's 2014-15 schedule includes 29 games, and the team will play in 11 states across the country. The schedule also features games against three 2014 NCAA Tournament teams -- Kansas State, Nebraska and defending Summit League champion North Dakota State. In total, UNO will square off with opponents from seven other conferences.

The Mavericks have never faced two of their opponents: Marquette and Kansas State. They hold a combined all-time record of 184-224 over all teams on the regular-season slate.
