Box Score 2 PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Behind season-best serving and attacking efforts, the Omaha volleyball team began the GCU Invitational with two wins on Friday, defeating NJIT 3-1 and UMass Lowell 3-0 at Antelope Gymnasium. With the wins, the Mavericks improved to 13-18 (6-10 Summit League) on the season.
MATCH #1: OMAHA 3, NJIT 1Junior outside hitter

Mackenzie Horkey each had 10 kills in the Mavericks' 3-1 opening win against NJIT in the morning. Horkey achieved her seventh double-double of the year with 11 kills and added two blocks.

Sydney O'Shaughnessy netted her team-leading 18th double-double on 37 assists and 11 digs, alongside a season-high-tying four service aces and two blocks. Junior middle blocker
Megan Schmale led UNO at the net with four blocks and also had eight kills, three aces and five digs.
As a team, Omaha hit .206 to NJIT's .098 and outblocked the Highlanders, 6-2. The Mavericks totaled a season-high 11 aces for the match.
NJIT was led by Danica Vukotic's double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Valerie Carroll had 12 digs and hit .409, while Fran Edmonson had 13 digs and Camilla Tinari had 16. Alyssa Armada finished with a match-high 40 assists.
MATCH #2: OMAHA 3, UMASS LOWELL 0Wollak paced the Mavericks again offensively in the second match, finishing with 13 kills on .480 hitting and just one attack error. Wollak tallied six digs and two blocks as well.
Schmale led the way on the block, totaling four stops at the net along with two aces and six kills on .667 hitting. Horkey added eight kills, and junior libero
Kimberly Bailey notched a team-high nine digs.
O'Shaughnessy finished with 30 assists in the win, guiding the Mavericks to a season-best .419 team hitting percentage.
UNO held UML to a .105 attack percentage and outblocked the River Hawks, 5-0.
UMass Lowell was led by nine kills from Ella Merrill and 20 assists by Kylee Chun.
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, closing the 2014 season with two matches on the final day of the GCU Invitational. The Mavs open with Incarnate Word at 12:30 p.m. CT and finish with host Grand Canyon at 8 p.m. Links to live stats for both matches will be available on OMavs.com.
