Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. – The Omaha men's basketball team began a three-game road swing on Wednesday night, falling 98-74 to Seattle at KeyArena. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 1-1 (0-0 Summit League), while the Redhawks improve to 1-1 (0-0 WAC).
Senior guard
CJ Carter paced Omaha with 17 points, adding two rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward
Tre'Shawn Thurman made his first career start, finishing with 10 points and eight boards as well as two steals, a block and an assist. He became the first Maverick freshman to earn a start since
CJ Carter in 2011-12.
Redshirt freshman forward
Rylan Murry added another 10 points with 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Additionally, junior forward
Randy Reed came off the bench to contribute nine points, four rebounds and a pair of steals, and junior guard
Devin Patterson accounted for four points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Seattle was led by 24 points from Isiah Umipig, who hit six 3-pointers for the night also had five rebounds and six assists. Jarell Flora chipped in 22 points and eight rebounds, while Jack Crook tallied a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. William Powell narrowly missed a double-double of his own with nine points and 11 boards.
As a team, SU shot .537 (36-for-67) for the night, including .579 (11-for-19) beyond the arc. Omaha finished at .361 (26-for-72) from the floor and shot .276 (8-for-29) from 3-point range.
Seattle shot lights-out in the first half, going 22-for-34 (.647). Three Redhawks reached double figures in the first 20 minutes: Flora (20), Crook (11) and Umipig (10), with Flora going 8-for-12 with a pair of threes. Thurman had eight points with two 3-pointers early, giving Omaha a 12-10 lead by the first media timeout. It was UNO's last lead of the game, as Seattle scored 10 unanswered points capped with an Umipig three to go ahead 22-12. The Redhawks' advantage was pushed to 46-23 with dunks by Shore Adenekan on consecutive possessions, and they led 53-29 by halftime.
After the break, Seattle came out to hit seven 3-pointers in the second half, four of them by Umipig. Omaha made an 11-3 run to start the half, using buckets from Rostampour and Tyus and a 3-pointer by Murry. But Seattle tamped down the Maverick surge, as Umipig made three straight treys from 16:05 to 14:36. The Redhawks then took their largest lead of the game with 11:20 left, going up 76-46 on two foul shots by Flora, and went on earn the win with a final score of 98-74.
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, traveling to Marquette. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis., and the game will be televised on FOX Sports 2.
