Mavs Win in Double Overtime

DENVER, Colo. – Chelsi Rohloff scored a pair of goals as the Omaha women's soccer team beat Denver 3-2 in double overtime in Summit League action.  Omaha moved to 3-8-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.  Denver, who were picked to defend their Summit League crown this year, drops to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.

“I thought we came out strong,” Head Coach Don Klostermann said.  “We didn't let down when we gave up the tying goals.  I am proud of the resilience and heart that our team showed today.”

Hannah Wampler put the Mavericks on the board 15:56 into the game.  Wampler laced a 25 yard free kick that beat the Denver goalkeeper.  This was Wampler's second goal of the season.

Angelica Pacheco tied it up for Denver in the 42nd minute.  Pacheco took a cross from Lilly McSwain on the left wing and placed the shot to the lower corner.

Chelsi Rohloff tallied her first goal of the game at the 60:51 mark in the second half.  Marin Dregelid played a perfect ball over the Pioneer defense.  Rohloff ran onto the ball and touched it past the onrushing DU keeper and into the goal.

Omaha held the lead until the 84:24 mark of the game when Denver got the equalizer.  Brooke Boothe took a pass from Sam Harder and finished with a shot from 18 yards out to make the score 2-2.

Omaha was held without a shot in the first overtime, while Denver managed four shots.  The Pioneers peppered Omaha goalkeeper Haley Shelton with three more shots in the second overtime, before the Mavericks answered.

Rohloff's game-winning goal came at the 107:33 mark off a pass from Lydia Holtmann.

Omaha was outshot 21-7 on the afternoon and Denver held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Rohloff had a team-beat three shots, two of which were on goal, while Hannah Wampler added two attempts.  Haley Shelton logged all 107:33 minutes between the posts and collected six saves.

Omaha will return to action on Friday, Oct. 10th against North Dakota State.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Caniglia Field.  The Mavericks will also travel to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 12 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
