Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – Senior Anna Sibson made Senior Weekend a memorable one on Friday evening by scoring the game winner 44 seconds into the second half in the Omaha women's soccer team's 1-0 win over Fort Wayne.
While the Mastodons has a slight edge in shots on goal, 5-4, the Maverick defense did not allow a goal. Omaha defender Lauren Lawler cleared a potential game tying shot off the goal line in the 61st minute.
The win saw UNO improve to 5-9-2 overall and 3-0-2 in Summit League play. Fort Wayne fell to 2-12-2 overall and 0-4-2 in league play.
“I was pleased with our defensive effort,” commented head coach Don Klosterman. “We did enough defensively to keep Fort Wayne off the board. They are a tough, hard-working team and they never gave up.
Sibson, with her fourth goal of the 2014 season and fifth of her career, gathered a blocked Chelsi Rohloff shot just outside the penalty area. Sibson sent a left footed shot from about 20 yards out into the back of the Mastodon net.
Maverick goalkeeper Haley Shelton made four saves as she earned her third shut-out of the season.
The Omaha women's soccer team concludes the home portion of the season on Sunday, October 26 against Oral Roberts University. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m. Seniors Ali Engler and Anna Sibson will be recognized before the game.
