Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – For the third straight conference game, the Omaha women's soccer team went into double overtime. On Friday evening, UNO tied North Dakota State 1-1 in double overtime.
Omaha is now 3-8-2 overall and 1-0-2 in Summit League play. North Dakota State is 5-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in league play.
The first goal of the game came via penalty kick. A North Dakota State defender was called for a hand ball within the penalty area at the 28:48 mark. Omaha defender Hannah Wampler stepped up and buried the penalty shot to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. The goal was the third of the season for Wampler. Anna Sibson had a chance to double the score in the final five minutes of the half, but her shot was saved.
Three minutes into the second half, North Dakota State's Tristyn Walczak pulled down UNO's Kyla Booker who was on a breakaway. Walczak was shown a red card, which forced the Bison to play a player down the remainder of the game.
North Dakota State scored the equalizer in the 80th minute. Amy Yang's shot found the right corner of the goal just out of the reach of UNO goalkeeper Haley Shelton. Omaha looked to retake the lead in the 88th minute. Courtney Neville had two shots blocked by NDSU goalkeeper Sierra Bonham. Kyla Booker had her game winning attempted pushed wide by Bonham in the final 15 seconds.
Courtney Neville seemed to have scored the game winner in the 109th minute, but her shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play.
Omaha outshot North Dakota State by a 20-8 margin. The Mavericks also held an 8-3 margin in corner kicks.
The Mavericks travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday, October 12 to take on Drake University in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Cownie Soccer Complex.
