Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team made its home debut on Friday evening, falling 3-0 (24-26, 21-25, 13-25) to SIUE at the Omaha Marriott Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks are now 1-3 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Cougars improve to 2-3.
Sophomore
Megan Schmale led UNO with eight kills, while sophomores
Kelley Wollak and
Diane Banderas each chipped in five kills apiece. Sophomore setter
Bailey Baxter had 16 assists, and Wollak led the team with 13 digs for the night. Sophomore libero
Kimberly Bailey also had a double-figure performance with 11 digs.
At the net, Banderas posted a match-leading five blocks, which marked a career high for the Lincoln, Neb., native. Omaha also got four blocks from Schimmer and another three from Schmale, and as a team, the Mavericks outblocked SIUE, 8.5 to four.
SIUE was paced by 14 kills from Cori Harris and another 12 from Hilary Trevino. Mallory Mangun finished with a double-double on 37 assists and 14 digs, while Chelsea Colclasure added 23 digs of her own. With the help of a .414 attack percentage with just two errors in the third set, the Cougars hit .215 as a team to UNO's .071.
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the final day of the Omaha Marriott Classic. The Mavericks face Southern Utah at 11 a.m., followed by Bradley at 5 p.m. Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com.
