In the opening set, the Mavericks never trailed and took a 17-10 lead with the help of back-to-back aces from Baxter. Although Drake nearly tied it at 24-23, Schmale punctuated the game with a kill to give Omaha the 25-23 win and a 1-0 lead.
In the second game, UNO dominated early with a 5-0 opening run sparked by three aces from
Rachelle Kruml and kills from Schmale and sophomore
Amy Taylor. Despite Drake quickly calling a timeout, momentum continued for the Mavericks, who pushed it out to a 14-4 advantage before the Bulldogs took another timeout. Omaha led by 10 by 20-10, helped by two more kills apiece from Schmale and Schimmer, but Drake battled back with a 5-0 run. Schmale cut it off with a kill and an ace, and the Mavericks went on to take the set, 25-20.
Game three proved closer, as DU led much of the later half of the set. Down 23-20, Schmale again halted it with a kill and forced a Drake timeout. A kill by Schroedter cut it to 24-22, and a DU attack error pulled the Mavs within one. Schimmer then put down a kill to tie the score at 24-24. A Schimmer-Schroedter block made it 25-24 UNO, and one final kill at the hands of Schimmer gave the Mavericks the set win, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
