Box Score 2 HOUSTON, Texas – The Omaha volleyball team closed out its first weekend of play on Saturday, falling 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) to UT-Pan American and 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 21-25) to Louisiana at the Marriott Houston Westchase Classic at Sharp Gym. The Mavericks are now 1-2 (0-0 Summit League) on the season.
MATCH 1 – UT-PAN AMERICAN 3, OMAHA 0
In the opening match of the day, sophomore Kelley Wollak paced UNO with 10 kills and 15 digs for her first double-double of the season. Freshman Kristy Wieser added seven kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Amy Taylor had six kills on .455 hitting with three blocks.
In addition, sophomore Michaela Schimmer had 15 assists, and sophomore Bailey Baxter chipped in 13 of her own. Sophomore Kimberly Bailey also had a double-figure effort with 12 digs.
Sophomore Megan Schmale, who was named to the all-tournament team for her performance over the weekend, tallied a match-best four blocks. Over three matches, Schmale hit .333 and averaged 1.20 blocks per set.
As a squad, Omaha outblocked UTPA, 7.5 to four, while the two teams were nearly identical in attack percentage, with the Mavs at a .200 clip to the Broncs' .202.
MATCH 2 – LOUISIANA 3, OMAHA 0
In the second match, Wollak tallied a team-leading eight kills with seven digs and two blocks, while Wieser and Taylor each added six kills. Sophomore Kimberly Bailey had seven digs as well, while Baxter totaled 12 assists, and Schimmer had 14 as well.
Banderas finished with a match-best three blocks, and the Mavericks outblocked the Ragin' Cajuns, 5-3.
Louisiana was led by 12 kills from Sara Mossakowski, while setter Andrea Hole had 31 assists and guided ULL to a .350 team hitting percentage. In the first set, Louisiana set the pace with a .519 hitting percentage, committing just one attack error.
Omaha returns to action next weekend, hosting the Omaha Marriott Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks open with SIUE on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., followed by two matches on Saturday, Sept. 7 with Southern Utah at 11 a.m. and Bradley at 5 p.m. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.
