Bears Blank Mavericks, 4-0

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Northern Coolorado in its home opener Friday at the UNO Soccer Field.

The Mavericks (0-3) couldn't seem to get anything go their way. Despite outshooting the Bears 15-9 overall and 9-6 in shots on goal, the Mavs came out on the wrong side of the scoreline.

The Mavs' luck can be summed up in the fact that they earned two penalty kicks in the game and converted neither. Katlyn Nimtz worked her way around in the box midway through the first half and was tripped. Her penalty kick was tipped away by UNC goalie Natalie D'Adamio.

In the 32nd minute, things got worse, as UNC drew a penalty kick of their own. Essence Ortiz-Lanier buried the PK for a 1-0 lead. Ortiz-Lanier doubled the lead in the 42nd minute after Kassy Castillo flicked a corner kick to her in the center of the box.

Just five minutes after halftime, UNC's Danielle Birdsall headed home a lob across the six-yard box after a free kick was played in by Rebecca Lancia. That made it 3-0.

The Mavericks kept on the attack though, and Nimtz earned yet another penalty kick in the 86th minute. This time, Monica Bosiljevac attempted the PK, but her effort went over the crossbar, summing up a frustrating day for UNO.

The Bears added a fourth goal by Shanlie Anderson in the 87th minute on a breakaway.

Nimtz had three shots on goal for the Mavs off the bench.

The Mavs will look to rebound on Sunday against North Dakota at the UNO Soccer Field at Noon.
