USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll
OMAHA, Neb. - In spite of playing just an exhibition game last week, the Omaha hockey team moved up in both college hockey polls this week.
The Mavericks are ranked 13th in the latest poll from USCHO.com, up one spot from last week, and they are 15th in the poll from
USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine. UNO had been receiving votes for the last two weeks the
USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll after a run of 12 weeks in that poll's top 15.
The top six spots in both polls remain the same as last week. Quinnipiac of ECAC Hockey has the top spot followed by Minnesota, Miami, Boston College, New Hampshire and North Dakota. Other WCHA schools appearing in the
USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll include Minnesota State (7), St. Cloud State (9) and Denver (11). St. Cloud State and Minnesota State switch positions in the USCHO.com top 20 poll while Denver comes in 10th. UNO's opponent this week, Wisconsin, is ranked 16th.
The Mavericks are 18-12-2 overall and 14-8-2 in the WCHA, putting it in a tie with North Dakota for third. The Mavs are just one point behind second-place Minnesota and three back of league-leading St. Cloud State. They also are just one point ahead of fifth-place Minnesota State.
UNO's magic number to clinch home ice advantage for the first round of the WCHA playoffs is five - any combination of points won or points lost by either Denver or Wisconsin.
The Mavericks host Wisconsin in their final home games of the regular season on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2. Friday's game begins at 6:37 p.m. and can be seen nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Saturday's game begins at 7:07 p.m. and will feature Senior Night activities.
