OMAHA, Neb. -- UNO opened their weekend slate 1-0 Friday night after beating the South Dakota Coyotes at HPER Swimming Pool, 175-123.
Freshman Morgan Stepp was a leader for the Mavericks. She took three first-place finishes. Her first victory came in the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:40.18. She added two more top-finishes in the 500-yard free (5:12.97) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.38).
Sophomore Natalie Renshaw and senior Madeline Hutt each had two individual first-place times, in addition to their respective relay wins. Renshaw's first win was the 200-yard free (1:55.09). She added to that with a win in the 200-yard back (2:08.83). Hutt, a Scottsbluff native, showed senior leadership dominating the 100-yard breast (1:06.18) and the 200-yard breast (2:19.63).
Junior Jenna Foiles took first place in the 200-yard fly (2:13.34) and the 100-yard fly (59.74).
"This was a great meet for us," said head coach Todd Samland. "USD pushed us the entire way."
In diving, sophomore Miranda Knipfer took second in 1-meter (221.17) and in 3-meter (215.16).
The Mavs will complete their weekend competition against Nebraska at 2 p.m. Saturday.
