OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team used a 37-9 run to close the first half en route to a 102-54 blowout of Eureka on Thursday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks improved to 5-5 on the season and a perfect 5-0 at home as they head into an eight-day break for finals week. Eureka fell to 5-2. UNO has reached the century mark twice through the first 10 games, as it scored 109 on Nov. 14 against Graceland. It's the first time since 2006-07 that the Mavs have hit the 100-point mark twice in the same season.
Felicia Anderson had a career-high 21 points, while
Ericka House added 19. The two combined to go 9-of-18 from 3-point range, and the Mavs as a team shot 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from long distance. For the game, the Mavs were 41-of-71 (57.7 percent) from the field, the fourth-best shooting performance in school history.
Sami Pawlak had 12 points and nine rebounds, while
Victoria Trowbridge had her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards.
Mikaela Shaw also finished in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Eureka scored the first four points of the game, but Omaha responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good.
Madi Robson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Mavs up 10-4 at the 16:15 mark. Lauren Schwanke's jumper with 12:06 left cut the Mavs' lead to 20-14, but UNO went on a 15-0 run to take a 35-14 lead by the 6:59 mark. The Mavs pushed the lead to 57-23 by halftime. House had 16 points in the first 20 minutes, while Anderson had 11. UNO hit 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from long distance in the first half.
The Mavs controlled the second half as well and went up by as many as 51 points with just over a minute to play.
Freshman
Felicia Coleman had a career-high nine points in 11 minutes off the bench, connecting on 4-of-7 from the field.
Taijhe Kelly had eight points, six rebounds and six blocked shots. Robson finished with eight points, seven assists and no turnovers, and
Lanese Bough produced four points, six rebounds and four assists.
UNO tied the school record with 10 blocked shots in the game. In addition to Kelly's six, Trowbridge had three and Bough had one.
The Mavs outrebounded Eureka 52-24 and shot 57.7 percent overall (41-of-71). UNO claimed a 52-22 edge in points in the paint and a 53-12 advantage in bench points. Caty Eeten had a game-high 25 points for the Red Devils.
The Mavs are next in action at the Wichita State Classic on Dec. 21-22. UNO will face UT-Pan American on Dec. 21 and Austin Peay on Dec. 22.
