Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Omaha women's soccer team dropped its final road game of the 2013 season, 1-0 at Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon.
The loss put the Mavericks at 3-9-2 overall and 1-4 in The Summit League. IPFW improved to 6-9-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play.
The Mastodons scored the game's only goal in the 19th minute. Gaby Romo took a pass from Sydney Hoareau and beat goalie
Meaghan Clark to the right side of the goal. The Mavericks had started the match strong and had a 2-1 shot advantage and four corner kicks before IPFW's goal.
For the game, the Mavericks outshot the Mastodons 9-7 overall, but IPFW had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. The Mavs were particularly strong in the second half with a 6-2 shot margin over IPFW.
Melanie McCormick had three shots and one on target for UNO.
Layla Ashouri and
Anna Sibson also had a shot on goal.
UNO returns to its new home, Caniglia Field, for the final two games of the season next weekend. On Friday, the Mavericks host IUPUI in their first game at Caniglia Field and the first-ever soccer game played at night under the lights. Friday night's game is also Senior Night. On Sunday, the Mavs conclude the season against Western Illinois.
