OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha men's soccer team will open up the brand new soccer pitch and renovated Caniglia Field on Saturday, Oct. 26 against Oral Roberts. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Hellas Sports Construction will complete the spreading of the infill this weekend, and the Maverick men's and women's soccer teams will begin practicing on the field next week.
The state-of-the-art playing surface features a lower grain that allows the ball to move faster compared to the old turf surface. The infill is a mixture of ground coconut husks and cork - instead of crumbled rubber - which keeps the on-field temperature lower.
The men's team has three scheduled games on the new pitch - Oct. 26, Nov. 9 (Fort Wayne) and Nov. 16 (Incarnate Word).
The women's team has two scheduled games on the new field and will play their first game on Senior Night on Nov. 1 against IUPUI at 7 p.m. They will also host Western Illinois on Nov. 3 at Noon.
