Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha volleyball team secured its first Summit League victory of the season on Friday night, dropping North Dakota State 3-0 at Sapp Fieldhouse. With the win, which was UNO's first sweep of a Summit League opponent since joining the conference, the Mavericks improve to 6-13 (1-3 Summit). NDSU moves to 1-16 (1-3 Summit).
Omaha was led by sophomore Megan Schmale, who recorded nine kills and hit .529 for the night. Freshman Kristy Wieser and sophomore Kelley Wollak each notched eight kills, with Wieser hitting .400. Sophomore Michaela Schimmer added seven kills, and sophomore Diane Banderas had another six with a team-leading four blocks.
Sophomore Bailey Baxter tied her season high with four service aces, six digs and 25 assists. As a team, the Mavericks outhit NDSU, .284 to .145, which marked a season high.
UNO got off to a quick start led by the serving of sophomore Bailey Baxter, who spurred the Mavericks to a 6-0 lead. Sophomore Kelley Wollak kept Omaha going during the set, picking up four kills. Despite a late NDSU rally, UNO won the first set 25-18, with 12 points off of Baxter's serving, including three aces.
After a 4-0 UNO run to start the second set, NDSU battled its way back into the set at 7-7. Solid hitting by the Mavericks brought them back into the lead, helped by three kills from Wieser, Taylor and Schmale and a Bison attack error to make it 11-7. Wieser and Schamle both hit .500 in the second set, recording three and four kills, respectively, pushing UNO to a 25-17 second-game score and a 2-0 match lead.
The third set proved close from the start, with 16 ties and nine lead changes. Two late kills by Wollak finally gave UNO the lead and put the Mavs up 24-22. Sophomore Amy Taylor ended the match with a kill, closing the set with a tally of 25-22 and the overall match sweep.
