KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
The Omaha volleyball team returned to conference action on Tuesday night, falling 3-2 (15-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 10-15) to Kansas City at Swinney Recreation Center. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 5-10 (0-3 Summit League), while the Kangaroos improve to 10-7 (3-2 Summit League).

Senior Natalie Ebke earned her fifth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 13 digs, as well as an ace and a block. Freshman Bailey Baxter also achieved a double-double, her fourth of the season, with 41 assists and 17 digs.

Freshman Megan Schmale and Jessy Schroedter matched each other with a team-best 11 kills. Schmale hit .375 and Schroedter finished at a .348 clip, with her total kills also tying her career high. Freshmen Kelley Wollak and Valerie Hecht added nine kills and seven kills, respectively.

Defensively, four Mavs had double-figure digs, led by 18 from senior Amy Roberts, who also had four aces to her credit. Freshman Kimberly Bailey added 10 digs of her own.

Baxter's 41 assists guided the Mavericks to a .201 team attack percentage, just under the Kangaroos' .235 effort.

Emily Lucas paced UMKC with a double-double on 23 kills and 16 digs with five aces, while Emma Hagedorn added 12 kills as well. The Kangaroos also had an outstanding serving performance as a team, totaling 11 service aces, a category in which they were previously tied with UNO for the league lead.

After UMKC took an early two-set lead, the Mavericks knotted the match in the third and fourth games with identical scores of 25-22. UNO's rally was bolstered by a .244 hitting percentage in game three and a game-best .333 in game four. The 'Roos outlasted UNO in the deciding set, however, winning 15-10 in the comeback on their home court.

UNO returns to action on Friday, Sept. 28, traveling to Western Illinois. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.
