OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker at home on Friday night, falling 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 15-25, 26-24, 13-15) to non-conference foe Drake at Sapp Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 5-8 (0-2 Summit League) on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-11 (0-2 Missouri Valley).
Freshman Kelley Wollak achieved her first career double-double with 17 kills and 22 digs, and senior Natalie Ebke had a double-double of her own with 12 kills and 14 digs, along with three blocks.
Freshman Megan Schmale also had a season-best performance, notching 10 kills with just one error for .529 hitting while adding seven blocks.
Redshirt freshman Bailey Baxter had a season-high 43 assists with seven digs and four blocks. Redshirt freshman Kimberly Bailey added 20 digs, and senior Amy Roberts chipped in 19 more.
Redshirt freshman Valerie Hecht also helped the UNO block, putting up four stops for the night along with nine kills. As a team, the Mavericks had their second-highest block total of the year, outblocking the Bulldogs 11-10. It marked the seventh time this season that UNO has posted more blocks than its opponent.
Drake was led by four players with double-figure kill efforts: Amanda Platte (12), Bentley Mancini (12), Jadranka Tramosljanin (11) and Cassie Effken (10). Tramosljanin also had 19 digs for a double-double. Effken and Katie Dulek accounted for five blocks apiece, and Platte contributed another four.
Omaha opened with a 25-18 win in the first set, but DU took game two at 25-20 and game three at 25-15. The Mavericks staged a comeback with a 26-24 victory in the fourth set and played a close deciding fifth game, but Drake went on to take the final set 15-13 for their first match win of the year.
