VERMILLION, S.D. – The Omaha swimming & diving team captured its first win of the season on Friday night, defeating South Dakota 159-141 at the DakotaDome.
Junior
Madeline Hutt won three individual events and set a pool record, while freshman
Natalie Renshaw and sophomore
Jenna Foiles each took a pair of individual wins. Hutt and Renshaw were both part of UNO's winning 200 medley relay team.
The Mavericks opened the meet strong in the 200 medley relay with Renshaw, Hutt, junior
Whitney Korgan and senior
Cami Hansberry clocking a time of 2:02.42.
Junior
Erin Wright then won the 200 freestyle (2:13.05), and sophomore
Ashley Kneifl added another top finish for the Mavs in the 100 backstroke (1:07.36).
Hutt (1:14.23) narrowly out-touched USD's Shannon Moceri (1:14.26) in the 100 breaststroke for another win. Foiles (2:29.82) led the field in 200 butterfly, followed by fellow sophomore
Christen Young (2:31.20) in second. Foiles (1:07.81) and Hansberry (1:08.68) also went one-two in the 100 fly.
Renshaw (27.05) and Hansberry (27.67) dominated the first two spots 50 free, and the 100 free also proved another solid UNO showing. Renshaw placed first with her mark of 59.67, followed by freshman
Hannah Johnson (1:01.51) in second and Korgan (1:01.87) in third.
Omaha capped the evening with a sweep in the 200 IM: Hutt (2:30.23) in first, freshman
Lexi Bergeron (2:30.96) in second and Wright (2:32.38) in third.
"Our team really did a great job of competing tonight," head coach
Todd Samland said. "USD puts together a strong lineup, and we had some tremendous races. They definitely brought out the best in our performances tonight.
"It was exciting to see some fantastic swims, especially with Maddie setting a pool record. We are happy to have our first win of the season."
UNO returns to action on Friday, Nov. 9, hosting Northern Iowa at HPER Swimming Pool at 6 p.m.
