VERMILLION, S.D. – The Omaha swimming & diving team captured its first win of the season on Friday night, defeating South Dakota 159-141 at the DakotaDome.

Junior Madeline Hutt won three individual events and set a pool record, while freshman Natalie Renshaw and sophomore Jenna Foiles each took a pair of individual wins. Hutt and Renshaw were both part of UNO's winning 200 medley relay team.

The Mavericks opened the meet strong in the 200 medley relay with Renshaw, Hutt, junior Whitney Korgan and senior Cami Hansberry clocking a time of 2:02.42.

Junior Erin Wright then won the 200 freestyle (2:13.05), and sophomore Ashley Kneifl added another top finish for the Mavs in the 100 backstroke (1:07.36).

Hutt (1:14.23) narrowly out-touched USD's Shannon Moceri (1:14.26) in the 100 breaststroke for another win. Foiles (2:29.82) led the field in 200 butterfly, followed by fellow sophomore Christen Young (2:31.20) in second. Foiles (1:07.81) and Hansberry (1:08.68) also went one-two in the 100 fly.

Renshaw (27.05) and Hansberry (27.67) dominated the first two spots 50 free, and the 100 free also proved another solid UNO showing. Renshaw placed first with her mark of 59.67, followed by freshman Hannah Johnson (1:01.51) in second and Korgan (1:01.87) in third.

Omaha capped the evening with a sweep in the 200 IM: Hutt (2:30.23) in first, freshman Lexi Bergeron (2:30.96) in second and Wright (2:32.38) in third.

"Our team really did a great job of competing tonight," head coach Todd Samland said. "USD puts together a strong lineup, and we had some tremendous races. They definitely brought out the best in our performances tonight.

"It was exciting to see some fantastic swims, especially with Maddie setting a pool record. We are happy to have our first win of the season."

UNO returns to action on Friday, Nov. 9, hosting Northern Iowa at HPER Swimming Pool at 6 p.m.
