Mavs Post 63-37 Win Over Mustangs

Final Stats

OMAHA, Neb. -
The UNO women's basketball team cruised to a 63-37 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon at the Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks improved to 4-1 with a season-best defensive effort holding the Mustangs (1-4) to 37 points on 12-of-52 (23.1 percent) shooting.

Casse Vaughn led the Mavs with 11 points and chipped in six rebounds. Cathleen Cox had a season-high 10 points off the bench on 4-of-6 shooting, and nine Mavs entered the scorebook with eight posting six points or more.

Omaha jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. The Mavs built a 26-10 lead by halftime despite shooting just 34.2 percent (13-of-38) in the first half and missing on all six 3-point attempts. On the other end, the Mavs were stingy defensively, holding the Mustangs to 16.0 percent (4-of-25) from the floor and forcing 11 of SMSU's 25 shot attempts to come from behind the arc in the first half. The Mavs' 10 points allowed in the half marked the fewest since they allowed 10 in the second half against Dana on Nov. 15, 2007.

In the second half, the Mavs led by as many as 35 at 59-24 with 6:03 remaining. UNO dominated the glass, 51-33, and the paint, 38-8.

Carolyn Blair-Mobley had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Paige Frauendorfer had eight points and eight boards. Taijhe Kelly, Jamie Nash, Ericka House and Stacia Gebers all scored six points apiece.

Alison Nagel had a game-high 19 points in just 17 minutes for the Division II Mustangs.

The Mavericks will now face their longest break between games during their eight-game homestand - four days. UNO is back in action on Nov. 30 when UT Arlington comes to town for a 7 p.m. game.
