OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team capped the 2012 season on Saturday night, falling 3-2 by set scores of 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 9-15 to South Dakota at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks end the season with a record of 6-22 (1-15 Summit League), while the Coyotes improve to 14-14 (8-8 Summit League).
The match marked the final contest for seniors
Natalie Ebke,
Amy Roberts and
Chelsea Snyder, whom the volleyball program beforehand honored with Senior Night festivities.
Ebke nabbed her team-leading 10th double-double of the year with 13 kills and 18 digs plus two aces, a performance that moved her into UNO's all-time top
10 for career digs. She closed her four-year run with 1,252 total digs, sitting at ninth and passing former Mavericks Erin Shafer (1,239) and Kathy Knudsen (1,255).
Snyder had an outstanding performance in her final match, totaling a career-best 10 kills on .529 hitting with a pair of blocks. Roberts recorded a match-best
28 digs with six assists and two aces.
Freshman
Michaela Schimmer paced Omaha with her third triple-double of the season on 19 kills, 21 assists and 12 digs, along with two blocks and an ace. Sophomore
Jessy Schroedter added 14 kills on .500 hitting for the night.
Redshirt freshman
Bailey Baxter also had a double-double effort with 34 assists and 19 digs, helping the Mavs to a .229 team hitting performance to South Dakota's .213.
The Coyotes were led by Kendal Kritenbrink's double-double on 16 kills and 13 digs with six blocks. Sydney Dimke (15) and Kim Bulaga (13) also finished with double-figure kills, and Tori Kroll put up a match-high 48 assists. USD's leader at the net was Kelsey Biltoft, who had 10 blocks.
