KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Omaha women's soccer team picked up its second Summit League win in a row with a 2-1 victory at Kansas City on Sunday.
The Mavs (3-11, 3-1 Summit) have been on a roll since conference play started, winning three of their four league games, including the last two on the road. The Mavs are now tied atop The Summit League standings with nine points, but both Western Illinois and Oakland are unbeaten in league play with 3-0 records. Kansas City fell to 4-7-3 (1-2 Summit).
Danielle Archuleta's goal in the 15th minute put them Mavs up 1-0 heading into halftime. Archuleta headed home a cross from
Melanie McCormick at 14:43 for her fifth goal of the season.
UNO dominated play in the first half with a 4-1 shot advantage. Archuleta's goal was the only shot on goal for either team in the half.
In the 61st minute,
Jordyn Braun headed home a corner kick from
Hannah Wampler for a 2-0 lead. It was Braun's second goal of the season.
Kansas City answered immediately in the 62nd minute, as Hannah Chadick beat UNO goalie
Meaghan Clark to the right corner of the net to make it 2-1 UNO.
But the Maverick defense held firm, limiting the Kangaroos to no shots on goal until the 85th minute. That's when Clark made two key saves on UMKC shots to preserve the win for the Mavericks.
Omaha finished with an 8-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. UNO also held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
UNO will have 11 days off before visiting Western Illinois on Oct. 19.
