FORT COLLINS, Colo. –
The UNO men's basketball team was back in action for the first time in 2012 on Saturday night, falling 87-63 at Colorado State's Moby Arena. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 6-11 on the year, while the Rams improve to 10-4.

Senior guard Mitch Albers paced Nebraska Omaha with 15 points. Junior forward Alex Welhouse and sophomore center John Karhoff chipped in 10 points apiece, and Welhouse led the way on the boards with a game-leading eight rebounds. Junior Tyler Egli also added nine points with 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range, and junior guard Jacques Coleman had a career-high-tying eight points of his own.

Colorado State was led by three players with double-figure scoring: Dorian Green (21), Chad Calcaterra (14) and Greg Smith (14). Pierce Hornung pulled down seven boards, and Jesse Carr dished out a game-best seven assists.

As a team, CSU shot 60.8 percent from the floor and held the Mavs to a 38.1 percent performance.

Albers got the Mavs on the board first with an opening 3-pointer, but a triple from Dwight Smith tied the game. The two teams traded baskets, with UNO relying on back-to-back shots from Karhoff, to bring it to 7-7. CSU then went ahead, but a trey from Gandy put the Mavs up 10-9. The Rams used a 7-1 run to go up 17-10, and it was cut off by a pair of free throws from Welhouse.

Wes Eikmeier dropped in a three, and Albers responded with an immediate layup to make it 20-14. UNO maintained the six-point margin with baskets from Albers and junior Jacques Coleman, but Green and Will Bell helped CSU out to a 28-18 advantage with just under seven minutes to go. The Rams went on to take a 40-26 lead by halftime, shooting 60.9 percent from the floor for the first half.

Welhouse and Carter accounted for UNO's first six points of the second half, but CSU took it to 45-32 by the first media timeout. The Rams then went on a 10-0 scoring run, which was halted by a 3-pointer, as well as a pair of charity shots, from Carter.

Colorado State took control shortly after, maintaining at least a 20-point lead with help from 14 second-half points from Calcaterra and another 10 from Smith. Egli fired in three consecutive 3-pointers in the last two minutes of the game for the Mavs, but the game ended with a final score of 87-63.

UNO returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 8, traveling to Johnson & Wales. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. (CT) at the Wildcat Center in Denver, Colo.
