OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO swimming & diving team hosted its final home meet of the season Friday night, falling 154-110 to Iowa State at HPER Pool. The Mavericks came away with a pair of first-place finishes in the loss.
In addition to their final home appearance, the Mavericks also honored their four seniors – Kylie Hubbell, Colleen Klaiber, Ariel Lahowetz and Amanda Schulte – with special festivities.
Sophomore Kylie Rathbone won the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 52.99, and sophomore Madeline Hutt captured the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.82.
Freshman Lexi Bergeron clocked in at 5:14.96 in the 500 free, placing second.
Junior Cami Hansberry also finished as runner-up in both of her events, the 50 free (24.52) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.09). Hansberry was also part of Nebraska Omaha's 400 free relay team, along with Klaiber, freshman Jenna Foiles and sophomore Whitney Korgan. The foursome placed second with a time of 3:41.31. In addition, Klaiber tallied a second-place performance in the 100-yard butterfly (58.55).
Hubbell closed her final home meet by finishing fourth in both the 200 free (2:01.05) and the 500 free (5:26.14) and was a member of another 400 free relay squad that placed third (3:47.75). Lahowetz chipped in a fifth-place showing in the 100 back (1:05.31) and swam on one of UNO's 400 free relay teams.
"I was very happy with our performances tonight," Head Coach Todd Samland said. "Our program has been pushing very hard in practice over the past two weeks. It was nice to be able to swim at home and see if our focus is still there -- and it is.
“I feel we will have an extremely solid conference meet in three weeks -- that is our true goal."
UNO returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Nebraska-Kearney. The meet is set for a 2 p.m. start in Kearney, Neb.
