OMAHA, Neb. –
The UNO volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of future Summit League opponent South Dakota Tuesday night, falling 23-25, 20-25, 14-25 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The 1,208 fans in attendance created the second-largest attendance mark of the season. Nebraska Omaha, in its first year as a Division I team, is now 2-14 on the year, while USD improves to 8-7.

The match also marked Senior Night and the Mavericks' final home appearance of the 2011 season. Senior setter Emily Myers had 26 assists for the night and led the Mavs at the net with four blocks. Senior middle blocker Brittany Hanssen notched three blocks – including two solo stops – and senior libero Angie Reicks totaled 11 digs. Reicks, who is second all-time in career blocks, now has 1,727 in four years and is just 56 away from breaking the school record.

Junior outside hitter Natalie Ebke narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 12 digs. Junior middle blocker Lizzy Mach and sophomore outside hitter Abby Sorensen notched six kills apiece, and Mach added three blocks.

South Dakota was topped by Amber Aschoff's 11 kills, while Tahnee Reed had a match-leading five blocks. The Coyotes hit .198 as a team, and setter Tori Kroll finished with 27 assists. Riley Haug and Carol Logato also put up double figures with 13 and 17 digs, respectively.

In the first set, Ebke exploded for seven kills and seven digs. USD took an early 7-1 lead before a 6-1 UNO run brought the score to 8-7. Behind five kills from Ebke, the Mavs nearly threatened at 21-20, and two Mach kills kept UNO in the hunt at 24-23. A final kill by Kim Bulaga, however, put it away for USD's 25-23 win.

Set two saw the Mavericks go on a 4-0 opening run, then extend the lead to an 11-3 advantage. Nebraska Omaha kept a consistent lead for much of the game, but the Coyotes chipped away to tie the score at 17-17. A USD error and a kill from Ebke helped put UNO back up, but South Dakota capitalized with a service ace and three Maverick errors to make it 23-20. Back-to-back kills from Reed and Aschoff, coupled with USD's .267 hitting, sealed the set at 25-20.

South Dakota opened the final game with three straight kills from Aschoff and Natalie Walseth, then held UNO off to take a 21-7 lead. The Mavs sprinkled in seven more scores, but it was not enough to overtake the Coyotes, who kept Nebraska Omaha at a -.071 team attack percentage. USD went on to win the set 25-14 and took the match sweep at 3-0.

UNO returns to action Sept. 30-Oct. 1, traveling to the Washburn Lady Blues Classic in Topeka, Kan. The Mavericks face Tarleton State (9:30 a.m.) and Abilene Christian (2 p.m.) on Friday, followed by match-ups with Dallas Baptist (9 a.m.) and Central Oklahoma (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
