KEARNEY, Neb. – The UNO swimming & diving team captured a 163-90 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. The Mavericks won 11 events in their second dual meet of the weekend, having faced Nebraska on Friday night.
Sophomore #Anna Haxby# won both the 100-yard freestyle (57.85) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.62) races, while junior #Ariel Lahowetz# grabbed the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.82) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:24.12) titles. The Mavericks swept the top three spots in the 200 back – with freshman #Erin Wright# in second (2:30.22) and sophomore #Nicole DeBoer# in third (2:30.43) – and the 100 back – with freshman #Kylie Rathbone# as runner-up (1:09.15) and freshman #Maddie Hutt# in third (1:09.87).
UNO also swept the 1,000-yard freestyle race, topped by senior #Laura Kemp#'s winning time of 11:29.12 and followed by DeBoer in second (11:32.79) and freshman #Mary Beth Rye# in third (11:41.47). In the 200-yard freestyle, senior #Lucy Zamecnik# raced ahead of the field to a time of 2:00.36, followed by freshman #Tiesha Scipio# in second (2:05.48) and sophomore #Mattie Fosbender# in third (2:07.38).
Freshman #Riley Smith# also captured the 200-yard butterfly , clocking in at 2:20.34, and freshman #Whitney Korgan# finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.33). In addition, the Mavs took the top three spots in the 200-yard medley relay, with the winning team taking a mark of 1:58.43.
On the diving side, junior #Amanda Schulte# won both the one-meter and three-meter events, scoring 278.10 and 273.25, respectively.
UNO returns to action at the Midwestern Collegiate Championship, set for Feb. 16-19 at HPER Swimming Pool on the UNO campus. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., and finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. each day.
