Mach Leads Mavericks in Day Two Sweep at UNO Showc

OMAHA, Neb. –
The UNO volleyball team finished strong at the final day of the UNO Showcase on Saturday, posting a pair of wins over Midwestern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Mavs improved to 3-1 in their opening weekend of competition for the 2010 season after splitting Friday's matches with Newman and Northern State.

Junior middle blocker Lizzy Mach combined for 27 kills in the two matches, highlighted by a .696 hitting performance in the later game against UAFS. Mach added seven blocks on the day, including five against MSU.

In the morning game against Midwestern State, the Mavs came out on top 3-0. Senior outside hitter Kayla Uhing led the offense with 13 kills and a .345 attack percentage, while Mach tallied 10 kills and five of her own. Junior libero Angie Reicks and sophomore outside hitter Natalie Ebke each finished with double-digit dig totals of 16 and 13, respectively, and Reicks also recorded five service aces.

The Mavs took the victory over the Mustangs, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-22.

In the evening's tournament finale, Mach was dominant with a career-high 17 kills against the Lions. Junior setter Emily Myers guided the offense with 48 assists, as Uhing also reached double figures again with 10 kills, and Ebke added 12. In addition, Uhing had 11 digs for her second-double-double of the weekend.

Defensively, Mach had a pair of blocks, while freshman outside hitter Abby Sorensen chipped in two.
Arkansas-Fort Smith was led by KatyBeth Carlson's 15 kills and 10 digs, and Jettie Stec totaled 10 kills.

UNO returns to action on Friday, Sept. 10 at the Angelo State Tournament in San Angelo, Texas. The Mavs open with Incarnate Word at Noon and Angelo State at 6 p.m., followed by Colorado School of Mines at Noon and Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
