PITTSBURG, Kan. – The UNO volleyball team saw its seven-game win streak snapped Friday night, as the Mavericks fell 3-1 at Pittsburg State (18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25). With the loss, Nebraska-Omaha is 8-2 (1-1 MIAA), while PSU improved to 4-5 (1-1 MIAA) on the year.
Senior outside hitter
Kayla Uhing topped the offensive effort, tallying 18 kills to match her career best set on Sept. 11. Uhing also finished with 10 digs, marking her sixth double-double of the season.
Junior middle blocker
Lizzy Mach also reached double figures in kills with 10, along with a pair of blocks. Junior setter
Emily Myers contributed 33 assists, nine digs and three blocks, and junior libero
Angie Reicks totaled 21 digs.
Pittsburg State was led by Molly Bergkamp, who finished the night with 15 kills and 14 digs. The Gorillas hit .164 as a team to the Mavs' .120.
After falling behind 2-0, the Mavs came back in the third game. Six kills from Uhing and four from freshman outside hitter
Abby Sorensen, who hit .333 for the set, keyed UNO to a 25-19 win. The late comeback was not enough, however, as PSU took a close fourth game 25-23 to grab the match victory.
UNO returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, traveling to Southwest Baptist. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Mo.
