KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The UNO golf team kept a firm grip on the hardware, winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women's golf championship for the second straight year. Junior #
Dani Suponchick# was the individual medalist, leading the Mavericks to a 43-stroke win at the Tiffany Greens Golf Club.
The Mavs finished with a team score of 627, easily outdistancing Truman State which finished second at 670. Missouri Western finished third at 676 followed by Fort Hays State (712) and Northwest Missouri State (747).
Last year, the Mavericks won the MIAA title in the first year it was contested.
Suponchick shot a 79 on Tuesday to finish with a two-day score of 154. It is the first time she has earned medalist honors this season. #
Erin Ommen and Rebecca Pollock# tied for second in team scoring and were tied for fourth overall after both shot 157. #
Abbey Weddle# had UNO's best round of the day with a 75. She was fourth in team scoring and sixth overall with a 36-hole total of 159. #
Armana Christianson# (5th/11th overall) finished at 173.
Four of UNO's five golfers finished in the top six.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Suponchick, Ommen and Pollock were named to the 2010 All-Tournament Team. Ommen, a two-time MIAA Player of the Week, was named the MIAA's Player of the Year. UNO head coach #

The Mavericks will now await the seedings for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional which will be held at the Tascosa Country Club in Amarillo, Texas.
