KEARNEY, Neb. - The Mavericks won their fifth and sixth straight games as they swept Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday evening. Nebraska-Omaha took the opener, 3-1 and then the night cap, 5-4.
The Mavs improved to 20-7 overall and will stay on the road and return to MIAA action with doubleheaders Friday at 3 p.m. at Emporia State and Saturday at Washburn at 1 p.m.
The Lopers struck first in the opener, getting a solo home run in the second inning. #
Lindsey Slocum#, the reigning MIAA hitter and pitcher of the week, put the Mavs ahead in the top of the fourth with a two-run double. #
Kristin Wellwood# added an RBI single in the sixth.

Beth Haley# improved to 7-1 with the win. She allowed seven hits but just the one run and she struck out seven with no walks.

Melissa Negrete# got the final six outs in the circle, stopping a UNK comeback attempt.

Katelyn Hinton hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Molly Feichtinger then led off the third with a double and later scored on a single from Wellwood. Emma Wright# later drove in two more with a single.
Slocum was in control in the circle until the sixth inning when the Lopers got three runs without recording an out. Negrete then entered and got the next three batters and then retired the side in order in the seventh for the save, her first of the year. Slocum improved to 8-1 with the win.
