Box Score

PITTSBURG, Kan. - #Tyler Bullock# went 14 for 14 from the free throw line and had his fifth straight 20-point game but the Mavericks played from behind the entire time in a 99-90 loss at Pittsburg State Saturday.

The loss wrapped up the Mavericks' regular season at 19-8 overall and 12-8 in the MIAA. They will be the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament and play Missouri Southern, seeded sixth, on Friday at 8:15 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The Mavericks will finish in a tie for third in the league with the winner of the Missouri Western-Southwest Baptist game later Saturday. The Mavericks hold the tie-breaker over both those teams with season sweeps.

Bullock's performance from the free throw line was the best since at least the 2000-01 season when single-game statistics are available. He added seven assists before fouling out with 25 seconds remaining.

#Jeff Martin# scored 17 points, all in the second half as he hit five 3-pointers. #Matt Newman added 13 and Dion Curry# came off the bench for his fifth straight double-figure point game with 16.

The Mavs shot 87 percent from the free throw line but just 41 percent from the field. The Gorillas, who wrapped up their season at 9-18 and 3-17 in the league, shot 54 percent in the game from the field.

The Mavericks cut a 24-point deficit in the second half down to single digits. A 3-pointer from Martin at the 2:54 mark made the score 80-73, PSU and then with just under two minutes left, #Josh Lynch# hit a layup that brought the Mavs within four.

The Mavericks committed 10 fouls in the final two minutes after that and the Gorillas made 14 of 19 free throws to secure the win.

PSU coach Gene Iba, who announced his retirement before the year started, coached his final game. He spent 15 years on the Gorilla bench and 30 years overall as a head coach.
