Tyler Bullock# tied his season-high with 32 points and three other Mavericks joined him in double figures as Nebraska-Omaha defeated Southwest Baptist, 102-96 in overtime during Senior Day Saturday to gain sole possession of third place in the MIAA.
The Mavericks (18-7) improved to 11-7 in the MIAA while SBU (19-9) fell to 10-8. The two teams entered the day tied for third in the standings and neck-and-neck in the NCAA South Central Region ranking. UNO is sixth while SBU is seventh.
Bullock was 10 for 24 from the field and 9 of 11 from the free throw line. He scored 20 of his points in the second half or overtime. #
Jeff Martin hit five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points while Dion Curry went 6 for 8 from both the field and the free throw line for 18 points. He added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Matt Newman# had 12 points.
Newman and Curry joined Bridger pregame for Senior Day recognition, though the three have one more home game. They'll host Missouri Southern Thursday and then wrap up the regular season Saturday at Pittsburg State.
Aside from a few ties, the Mavericks led the entire game until the 5:43 mark. The Bearcats used an 18-6 run to take their first lead at that point and then they built it to a four-point advantage with 3:13 remaining.
Martin then hit a 3 and Bullock followed with a layup to put the Mavs back up, 82-81 with 1:39 remaining.
Each team then traded free throws after that to give UNO a one-point lead with under a minute remaining. With 18 seconds left, Bridger fouled SBU's Kurtis Koenig and he hit one of two free throws to tie the game. Bullock then missed a layup as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Southwest Baptist led just once and struggled in the extra period, going 1 for 5 while UNO was 5 for 7 with Bullock and Martin each scoring eight points.
SBU out shot the Mavs, 54 percent to 47 percent and shot 68 percent in the second half. The Mavs kept the Bearcats in check by out-rebounding them, 38-33 and by committing just 11 turnovers. The Bearcats had 21 turnovers and Bullock had five steals.
Five SBU players reached double figures. Koenig led with 23 points and Jacob French went 8 for 8 from the field for 21 points.
