RED OAK, Iowa -- The UNO volleyball team fought back from a two-game deficit, but it was not enough to overcome Northwest Missouri State in a 3-2 loss at Red Oak High School on Wednesday night, 21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-13. With the loss, the Mavericks are 15-14 (5-12 MIAA), while NWMSU is 14-11 (10-6 MIAA).
Senior outside hitter
Kayla Uhing put down 18 kills with a career-high 20 digs for her 14th double-double of the season, topping her previous career best of 19 digs set last week. Uhing added five blocks, including two solo, as well as three service aces, to lead the Mavs.
Freshman
Abby Sorensen also finished in double figures with 15 kills on .419 hitting, with one ace and one block. Freshman
Megan Hutson was also key at the net with a team-high six blocks, and freshman setter
Miranda Wisehart had a match-high 41 set assists. Four Mavericks achieved double digits in digs -- Uhing (20), Wisehart (12), junior libero

Despite a .114 team attack percentage, UNO amassed 55 kills to the Bearcats' total of 48 and also outhit NWMSU's .103 tally for the night.
Two Bearcats finished with double-figure kills -- Alex Hanna (13) and Sara Falcone (10), who added six blocks as well.
Northwest Missouri State took an immediate lead in game one and never surrendered it. UNO had 12 kills over the Bearcats' eight, but NWMSU capitalized on 13 Maverick errors to take the first set, 25-21.
The second game took a similar turn, with multiple errors opening the door for Northwest to grab a 25-18 win.
Facing a sweep, UNO roared back in the third set, holding the opposition to its lowest attack percentage of the night at .094. Uhing led the Mavericks' offensive charge, totaling seven kills with a pair of aces, and Roberts and Reicks each had five digs. Down 18-15, two kills and an ace by Uhing tied it up at 18-all. Another Uhing ace, paired with three NWMSU attack errors, gave the Mavs a comfortable 22-18 lead. UNO's 10-0 run started by Uhing's effort was capped with an Ebke kill and two more Bearcat errors to keep the Mavericks alive for a 25-18 win.
In the fourth set, UNO enjoyed a lead until midway through the game, when Northwest tied it at 15-15, then took a two-point advantage on back-to-back kills by Hanna. The Bearcats extended their lead to 24-21, but the three Uhing kills that followed in the span, along with two NWMSU errors, took Nebraska-Omaha to a 26-24 win and tied the match at two games apiece.
The decisive set saw Northwest Missouri State run out to a commanding 9-1 lead, with the help of two kills apiece by Falcone and Amber Guthrie. A 10-3 Maverick run brought the set within one point, and two kills by
Sydney Fleege kept it close with a 14-13 score. Guthrie, however, put down the final kill of the match to take a 15-13 set victory and the 3-2 overall win.
UNO returns to action on Friday, Nov. 5, hosting Missouri Western at Sapp Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
