MANKATO, Minn. -- The UNO swimming and diving team finished Saturday's meet at Minnesota State-Mankato in a rare tie, as the two schools matched scores of 147. The Mavericks set three pool records in Mankato and had two freshmen achieve provisional NCAA Championship cuts -- Kylie Rathbone in the 100 breaststroke and Maddie Hutt in the 200 breaststroke.
The Mavs opened with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Rathbone, junior Amy Bechdolt, junior Colleen Klaiber and senior Cait Hopkins turned in a time of 1:51.13. Hopkins also took event titles in the 200 freestyle (1:57.15) and 100 freestyle (54.59), and the 200 freestyle relay team claimed a victory with a mark of 1:39.17.
Junior Kylie Hubbell posted an 18:15.49 to win the 1,650 freestyle, while Rathbone chipped in a top finish in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.23, and Hutt also won the 200 breast (2.24.97). The freshman duo achieved two NCAA provisional marks with their times.
Bechdolt added a first-place showing in the 500 freestyle at 5:19.41, and in the 50 free, freshman Tiesha Scipio finished first with a mark of 24.84. Senior Laura Kemp also tallied an event win with a time of 2:12.53 in the 200 IM.
UNO returns to the pool Dec. 3-4 for the Mutual of Omaha Invite. Action starts at 9 a.m. in Omaha.
